Statistics
Strange and incomplete data sets, my beloved …
Similar to the BSF 2022 analysis, this one also comes with plenty of weird quirks to it. We’ve got new set releases mid season, licensing restrictions and even disqualifications, so whatever lies below might not be all that clean and comprehensive, but it is one woman’s best attempt to make sense of it all. Can you tell I’m writing this right after staying up all night to watch worlds? Probably.
Locations: 20
Sets: 159 collected of 159 total
Decklists: 153 collected of 159 total
Those are the base numbers we’re working with. Right off the bat, we’re one set short of the expected 160 because of Singapore’s original winner being subsequently disqualified for unsportsmanshiplike conduct, so their regional ended up with only 7 entries in top cut. Admittedly, I wasn’t quite sure on how to handle this situation, since the deck did win legitimately and is therefore a valid piece of the meta mosaic I’m putting together here, but alas – if Bushiroad doesn’t count it on their official website, I won’t be counting it in the stats either.
But that aside – I’m really happy with how the collection effort went this time around! Can’t thank the community enough, wouldn’t be possible without you guys 🙂

Top 8 Representation – Overall
This section sums up each set’s representation in general, NOT accounting for potential mid-season releases and licensing restrictions.

Top 8 Representation – Adjusted for Set Eligibility
In this section, each set’s representation is calculated based on the locations where it was allowed for play. For example: Mushoku was allowed at all locations, so its representation remains 14 decks out of 159 total decks = 8.81%. But Hololive wasn’t eligible at one of the locations, so its adjusted representation becomes 42 decks out of 151 total possible decks = 27.81%.
The affected sets are:
- HOL – not legal in Taiwan (1)
- AT – not legal in Mexico (1)
- AOT – not legal in Houston, Duluth, Rosemont, Germany, Spain & Taiwan (6)
- 5HY – not legal in Houston & Spain (2)
For AOT and Quints in particular, the restrictions only applied to their latest releases (AOT Final Season and Quints vol. 2), but since all the relevant decks used cards from those releases, we can effectively consider the whole sets being restricted for those locations. Which is great, that makes my work easier 🙂 And in the same vein, HOL also got a Premium Booster release during the BCS season, but since that didn’t significantly change the topping builds, I’m choosing to disregard it.
These sets will be marked with red on the bar chart below for added visibility. For their representation, instead of the 20 locations & 159 decks total, the following numbers are used:
Set | Number of Decks in Top 8 | % of Possible Top 8 Places | n (If Adjusted) |
HOL | 42 | 27.81% | 151 decks (19 locations) |
5HY | 35 | 24.48% | 143 decks (18 locations) |
AOT | 15 | 13.51% | 111 decks (14 locations) |
MTI | 14 | 8.81% | |
TRV | 14 | 8.81% | |
DDM | 13 | 8.18% | |
KGL | 6 | 3.77% | |
TSK | 4 | 2.52% | |
RWBY | 3 | 1.89% | |
DAL | 3 | 1.89% | |
LSS | 2 | 1.26% | |
AT | 1 | 0.66% | 151 decks (19 locations) |
BD | 1 | 0.63% | |
SAO | 1 | 0.63% | |
BFR | 1 | 0.63% | |
KNK | 1 | 0.63% | |
FGO | 1 | 0.63% | |
SDS | 1 | 0.63% | |
GL | 1 | 0.63% |
Evidently, the adjustments don’t change much this time around: AOT gets a 4.08 percent point boost, Quints go up by 2.46 percent points, HOL by 1.40 and AT by 0.03.
1st Places
Here’s a list of all the 1st place winners together:
Location | Set | Decklist |

Osnabrück – Germany | 5HY | 8 Standby |

Suntec City – Singapore | 5HY | 8 Standby |
Manhattan, NY – USA | AOT | Door/Choice |
Anaheim, CA – USA | 5HY | 8 Standby |
To absolutely no surprise, Quints got a whooping 40% of all 1st places – twice as many as the runner-up Mushoku. That number gets pushed even 4.44 percent points higher when adjusted for location restrictions, which is again a pretty insignificant change overall. But what I find funny is that in this math, AOT actually did a better job at getting 1st places than Mushoku did – 21.43% over Mushoku’s 20%. Not sure if that’s something we expected to see at the start of the season, but amusing nonetheless.
Set | Number of 1st Places | % of All 1st Places | % of Possible 1st Places (If Adjusted) |
5HY | 8 | 40% | 44.44% |
MTI | 4 | 20% | |
AOT | 3 | 15% | 21.43% |
HOL | 2 | 10% | 10.53% |

TSK | 1 | 5% |
Conversion From Top 8 To 1st Place
I’ll let this section speak for itself, but just for shits and giggles, I think you guys should know that if the Adventure Time winner didn’t get disqualified, AT would actually have a 50% conversion rate 🙂
Number of 1st Places | Number of Decks in Top 8 | Conversion Rate From Top 8 to 1st Place | |
MTI | 4 | 14 | 28.57% |
TSK | 1 | 4 | 25.00% |
