When does the WSEC start and how long is it?
The first part of WSEC starts on February 1st and finishes on July 31st.
Each shop is asked to organize 1 WSEC Tournament each month for a total of 6 during this period. Every Tournament grants points to the players based on the standings and matches won. In the end, the 5 best scores of each player within the store are counted to determine each player’s shop score.
From this year, each country could organize 1 special event during the year to give extra invites to the WSEC Final. The number of extra invites depends on the number of participants.
The second part of WSEC, will consist of some special events that take place in the 2nd part of the year:
Last Chance Qualifier (1 in the same location of the Finals to grant invites for WSEC Final)
WGP (Still to verify)
WSEC Final (To decide the winner of the WSEC and give an invite to World Finals)
What can I play during WSEC?
Because WSEC’s primary aim is to increase the number of players taking part in tournaments with the end goal being to decide the representatives for World Finals, we decided to permit the use of both JP and EN cards (EN Exclusive too).
You must follow the JP Banlist for the tournaments both if you are playing JP cards or EN cards. For EN Exclusives, you must follow the EN banlist too.
Here you could find the updated version of the Banlist for both formats:
For WGP and the WSEC final, only JP cards are hallowed because the final goal is to give the invite to the JP world finals.
Because of the language, the players need to have an easy way to access card translations if needed (both a printed version or easy access on the phone would be good).
WSEC final and WGP have to follow European Sets limitations, so the following titles could not be played due to licensing:
Marvel
Disney/Pixar
Star Wars
How does the Shop Tournament work?
To start a valid WSEC Tournament, a minimum of 6 players is required (4 for countries with only 1 shop).
If the shop is registered on BushiNavi, it is preferred to use it to organize the Shop Tournaments, as it is easier to share the results at the end of it. Regardless, if the Shop can not use BushiNavi, they must share the final standings with the number of matches won by every player and the set played. For reporting purposes, it is advised to share the decklog of the players in top-cut (this could be done after the tournament ends).
Here are the Tournament Brackets:
6 – 8 Players = 3 Rounds
9 – 16 Players = 4 Rounds
17 – 32 Players = 5 Rounds
33 – 64 Players = 6 Rounds
65+ Players = 7 Rounds
Top Cut and Single Elimination
6 – 8 Players = No Top Cut
9 – 16 Players = Top4
17+ Players = Top8
How does the point system work?
Every player in each Shop Tournament, will gain 3 Points for each Win in Swiss rounds. In addition, players are awarded points for top-cutting as follows:
8 or less players: 2 Points for 1st place and 1 Point for 2nd place (no topcut is played)
9 to 15 players: 4 Points for 1st place, 2 Points for 2nd place, and 1 Point for 3rd and 4th Place (topcut with single elimination need to be played)
16+ players: 6 Points for 1st place, 4 Points for 2nd place, 2 Points for 3rd and 4th place, 1 Point for 5th to 8th place (topcut with single elimination need to be played)
In addition, you gain a small amount of points based on your final standings: (total players – your standing)/10
If you win 0 matches, your base score is 1.
If you drop from the Shop Tournament, your score is based on the matches won before dropping.
Here a brief example of a Shop Tournament with 8 players:
| 1st Player | 3 Swiss Won | 11,7 Points [2 + 3×3 + (8-1)/10] |
| 2nd Player | 2 Swiss Won | 7,6 Points [1 + 2×3 + (8-2)/10] |
| 3rd Player | 2 Swiss Won | 6,5 Points [2×3 + (8-3)/10] |
| 4th Player | 2 Swiss Won | 6,4 Points [2×3 + (8-4)/10] |
| 5th Player | 1 Swiss Won | 3,3 Points [1×3 + (8-5)/10] |
| 6th Player | 1 Swiss Won | 3,2 Points [1×3 + (8-6)/10] |
| 7th Player | 1 Swiss Won | 3,1 Points [1×3 + (8-7)/10] |
| 8th Player | 0 Swiss Won | 1 Point (just for participation) |
How do I earn an invite to the WSEC Final?
Because all countries are different in both number of players and shops, we want to give more importance to the individual shops. As a result, the 1st place player of each shop ladder qualifies for the WSEC finals. If fore some reason, the 1st player could not participate at the WSEC Finals, the invite pass down to the 2nd player.
One player cannot have more than one invitation.
If a player obtains 1st place on multiple shop ladders, the invite will pass down to the 2nd place player in whichever shop has the higher 2nd place score among those shops. Other particular cases will be resolved in the same spirit, where the invites will pass down to the players with more points among the candidate players.
For example:
| SHOP A | SHOP B |
| 1st Player (Player A): 30 Points (QUALIFIED) | 1st Player (Player A): 20 Points |
| 2nd Player (Player B): 16 Points | 2nd Player (Player C): 18 Points (QUALIFIED) |
Country Special Event slots
Starting from this year, every country could held a Special Event during the year (you will find the informations when each Special Event will be announced in the Contry page) to grants more invites to the players.
The number of invites that could be grant for each Special Event depends on the number of participants:

17 to 32 players: 2 Invites for the WSEC Final
33 to 64 players: 3 Invites for the WSEC Final
65 or more players: 4 Invites for the WSEC Final
Country Invites based on number of players
From this year, the National Qualifier is no more played. So we decided to grants invites to the players, depending on the number of players in each Country. The invites will be distributed by the Country Representatives depending on players in each region, to the top X players.
The number of slots generated by each country is as follow:
0-16: 1 more invite
17-32: 2 more invites
33-48: 3 more invites
49-64: 4 more invites
65-80: 5 more invites

How does the Last Chance Qualifier work?
LCQ is a special event during the same weekend of the Finals and is the last opportunity to obtain an invite to the WSEC Finals.
It is open to every player that is not already invited and grants invites as follows:
16 or less players: The Winner is invited to the WSEC Finals.
17 to 32 players: The Winner and the 2nd place player are invited to the WSEC Finals.
33+ players: The top 3 players are invited to WSEC Finals.
